NOT IN SUPERSTORES? – WHY
It would be far easier to sell Protek via the big national chains. However have you noticed that the majority of products sold from these stores are cheaply produced. These items appeal to the masses who are without a conscience for where things come from and how long they last. Unfortunately this product doesn’t compete well in that marketplace. The costs of producing an organic, Eco Friendly treatment, is more expensive than creating a man made synthetic equivalent. That is why over 200 companies, ranging from shed and fence manufacturers to independent garden centres, fencing installers and farm shops, have been selling Protek as their preferred treatment range since 1990.

What is exterior wood paint?
Exterior wood paint and woodstains are specially formulated treatments that are designed to nourish and protect your garden fence, garden shed or timber furniture. Here at Woodpaints.co.uk we focus on water based wood paints and stains, that are safe to plants pets and people. These exterior wood treatments are a much safer product compared to spirit or oil based wood treatments that are more harmful to the environment. By mixing water with wax, acryllic or linseed oil, along with organic compounds, we provide eco-friendly wood paints, that offer lasting protection in a wide range of colours. The Protek range of paints and wood stains have also caught the attention of Alan Titchmarsh and Prue Leith.

What makes Protek so popular?
It is Protek’s task as manufacturers of quality wood stains, decorative timber coatings and preservatives, to design treatments that are effective and long lasting, while aiming not to harm the user or any flora and fauna that comes into contact with it.
Our wood paint range is the attractive and effective solution to looking after all types of outdoor timber. Each product is skillfully made to minimise any human health and safety risk and the effect on the environment. Our wood stains can be used on a variety of finished states such as rough sawn or planed surfaces and will leave a natural looking coloured stain high build finish.

What paint do I need for exterior wood
When working on wood outside, you’re either going to want an exterior wood paint or an exterior woodstain. Here is when you’d choose one over the other:
Exterior Wood Paints
You always want exterior paint to hold its own against the elements. Typically, customers will opt for the opaque finish when working with doors, frames & sheds, as opposed to having a glossy wooden shed. Royal Exterior is the product for you as it has better defensive properties against rain.
Exterior Woodstains
When you have a wood surface that is already finished to a colour you like and want to keep, you’ll need CLEAR TOUGH COAT or ROYAL EXTERIOR CLEAR. Please be advised that using oil based products can cause a yellowing over time.
If you like to see a the wood gain but would also like to change the colour, then the longest lasting product is Timber Eco Shield.
What paint do I need to paint my garden wall or plant pots
If you’re painting with a mixture of wood and concrete, you Woodstain and Protect might be worth a look. This product has a great colour range and is easy to apply. It can also be applied to properly primed concrete.
How many coats of paint should you apply to exterior wood?
Generally speaking it is recommended you apply two coats of paint to exterior wooden surfaces. This helps to ensure adequate coverage, durability and protection against the elements. The number of coats needed does really depend on the condition of the wood, your chosen paint and also your expectations.

How to paint exterior wood?
Painting exterior wood is a similar process to painting interior wood:
- Clean and prepare your surface, removing any dirt, mildew or loose paint. This can be achieved by a pressure washer or by using a specialist wood cleaning solution.
- Select the right paint which is designed to withstand outdoor conditions, for instance, protects against UV rays, moisture and mildew.
- Prime your wood – this is very important as it helps to maximise the adhesion of the paint, maximising the lifespan.
- Use the appropriate tools – rollers, paint brush or sprayer if required.
- Apply multiple coats until you achieve your desired result, ensuring each coat is completely dry before applying the subsequent coat.
